The Borough of Matawan manages two parking lots which are owned by NJ Transit.

DAILY PARKING LOT

The daily parking lot is located on the south side of the railroad tracks between Main Street and Atlantic Ave. The daily lot parking fee is $3.00 per day. Payment is made at the 3 new parking machines located in the lot.  When parking your vehicle, take notice of the parking stall number attached to a sign post on the front of the stall and deposit $3.00 in the parking machine for that number.  The lot operates on a "first come - first served" basis. The lot is usually filled to capacity by 6:00am to 6:30am, Monday through Friday. Overnight parking is permitted in the daily lot. Please deposit $3.00 for each day you plan to leave your vehicle in the lot. Weekend parking (Saturday and Sunday) is generally available.

MONTHLY PARKING LOT

The Permit Parking lot is the triangular shaped lot located on the North Side of the railroad tracks between Main Street and Atlantic Ave. Annual permits are $480.00 for the full year, or $120.00 for a quarterly (three month) permit. The lot is currenlty SOLD OUT with an approximate SEVEN (7) YEAR waitlist. You may add your name to the Matawan waitlist by calling 732-290-2004 between 8:30am and 4:30pm, Monday through Friday.  There is no residency requirement for a parking permit.

FREE PARKING

Both the daily lot and monthly permit lot are open to the general public on Saturdays and Sundays and federal legal holidays. No permit is required and there is no fee in either lot. The Matawan Monthly Permit Lot opens to the general public AFTER 11:00 am on Monday through Friday. A parking permit is not required AFTER 11:00 am and there is no fee charged for parking.

TEMPORARY SUMMER PARKING PERMITS

The Borough of Matawan has instituted a summer parking permit program in 2008. A limited number of permits have been issued for a four month period, usually May 1 to August 31. The permits are sold on a first come first served basis.

Application forms will be available at the NJ Transit Ticket Office in the Matawan-Aberdeen Train Station or at the Matawan Municipal Complex at 201 Broad Street in Matawan (8:30-4:30) effective Monday March 26, 2008.

Fee:  $225.00 for the 4 month parking ( May 1, 2008 through August 31, 2008)

The summer permits are not renewable, and do not affect your status on the Matawan Borough wait list.
