Water Supply Change

Customers of the Matawan Water Department receive their water supply from two sources. April through October of each year Matawan’s ground water treatment plant produces the water. November through March New Jersey American’s surface water treatment plant in Lincroft supplies the town. When the Matawan Plant is producing water a free chlorine residual is used in the treatment process as a water supply disinfectant. New Jersey American’s treatment plant uses a chloramination process that disinfects the water supply with a chloramine residual.

Kidney dialysis patients and fish owners must take special precautions not to use water directly from the plumbing system containing free chlorine or chloramines.

Time Period Supplier Type of Water Disinfectant
April - October Matawan Ground Water Free Chlorine
November - March NJ American Surface Water Chloramine Residual
