Clinical services are provided free or for a small fee, and are available to all Matawan residents.

Testing for Covid-19

The Monmouth County Freeholders, MCHD and the Grunin Foundation have partnered to bring FREE COVID TESTING to your community.  The MCHD has provided 2,282 Covid-19 tests to the public as of August 31, 2020. No appointment is necessary; simply walk up during the times listed and a health professional will conduct the test.  Click the link for a listing of test locations

School Immunization Requirements during Covid-19

The New Jersey Department of Health (NJDOH) will not waive the vaccine requirements nor will there be any extensions for the upcoming school year. Students will be expected to comply with all vaccine requirements prior to attending virtually or in-person at a New Jersey child care/preschool and school. New Jersey still allows for medical and religious exemptions when applicable.

The value of immunizations is even more evident during this pandemic. Receiving timely immunizations and ensuring compliance with New Jersey school immunization requirements is key to reducing the potential for vaccine-preventable disease outbreaks.  For information on age appropriate immunizations or to receive assistance with vaccinations please contact the Monmouth County Health Department (732) 431-7456

    

 


Matawan Borough Flu Clinic

Monmouth County is currently scheduling a series of Seasonal Flu Vaccination Clinics throughout the County.

A list of upcoming clinics will be provided once it is finalized.

CDC reccomends that all persons aged 6 months and older should be vaccinated annually, with rare exceptions.

Vaccination to prevent influenza is particularly important for persons who are at increased risk for severe complications from influenza, or who are at high risk for influenza-related outpatient, emergency department, or hospital visits. When vaccine supply is limited, vaccination efforts should focus on delivering vaccination to the following persons (no hierarchy is implied by order of listing):

  • are aged 6 months through 4 years (59 months);
  • are aged 50 years and older;
  • have chronic pulmonary (including asthma), cardiovascular (except hypertension), renal, hepatic, neurologic, hematologic, or metabolic disorders (including diabetes mellitus);
  • are immunosuppressed (including immunosuppression caused by medications or by human immunodeficiency virus);
  • are or will be pregnant during the influenza season;
  • are aged 6 months through 18 years and receiving long-term aspirin therapy and who therefore might be at risk for experiencing Reye syndrome after influenza virus infection;
  • are residents of nursing homes and other chronic-care facilities;
  • are American Indians/Alaska Natives;
  • are morbidly obese (body-mass index is 40 or greater);
  • are health-care personnel;
  • are household contacts and caregivers of children aged younger than 5 years and adults aged 50 years and older, with particular emphasis on vaccinating contacts of children aged younger than 6 months; and
  • are household contacts and caregivers of persons with medical conditions that put them at higher risk for severe complications from influenza.

In conjunction with the Monmouth County Board of Health, the Monmouth County SPCA will be offering free rabies vaccination clinics for its residents.

In an effort to maintain social distancing and protect our staff and clients, we will be using curbside service methods for appointments.

Call the Monmouth County SPCA’s Vogel Veterinary Care Center today to make an appointment for your pets at 732-542-3125

If this is not your pet’s first rabies shot, you are required to submit proof of vaccine history prior to your appointment to info@vogelvet.com. Once proof is received (if applicable) the pet will be eligible for the 3-year rabies vaccine. Contact us for details!

Please note that pets will not receive a physical exam. We recommend that all pets receive a regular exam by a veterinarian once per year.

At our veterinarian’s discretion, we reserve the right not to administer a Rabies vaccine due to patient health or temperament.

Due to covid19 and social distancing requirements there are no municipally sponsored rabies clinics scheduled at this time. When municipally sponsored free rabies clinics resume, that information wll be posted on the Monmouth County Health Department  Calendar of Events page


 


NJ Medical Reserve Corps

 
The Health Department is currently looking for additional volunteers for our response team. In order to build a medical/hazardous materials team in the case of a large response, a variety of backgrounds are needed. The health department is looking for nurses, physicians, physician assistants, crisis counselors, translators, and anyone with experience dealing with hazardous materials. Wipe Out Lead New Jersey

Wipe Out Lead NJ (WOLNJ) is a statewide initiative to help expectant parents and families in NJ identify lead hazards in homes built before 1978. The program provides free home testing kits to screen for dangerous levels of lead paint dust,  the most common source of childhood lead poisoning.

Lead poisoning is the #1 environmental health threat to American children.

Lead is a heavy metal that is toxic to the body. Children under 6 are most at risk because it is easily absorbed into their bodies where it affects their developing brains and organs. Children exposed even to small amounts of lead can suffer from damage to the brain.

Unfortunately, once a child is exposed to lead its effects cannot be reversed. You can however reduce the child’s exposure to lead hazards and prevent further damage.

You are eligible to receive a free home testing kit if:

  • There is a pregnant woman in the household or,
  • Children less than 18 years of age (especially if children under the age of 6) live in or frequently visit the household, or
  • You reside in a home built before 1978, or are unsure of the age of your home.

 You do not need to be the owner of the building to receive your free test kit.

The user friendly kit contains everything needed to test a home, including a pre-addressed, postage paid envelope to send samples to the lab. Results are available in a few weeks.

All who return the test kits will receive a $5 grocery store voucher.

Wipe Out Lead NJ is simply a screening program. Homes that test positive will need a more thorough assessment to determine the degree of risk as well as appropriate interventions.

The program also assists residents and owners of lead-burdened properties apply for lead abatement state loans and grants.
